Doing the Best You Can in This Moment is Enough

Does anyone else feel like the world has gotten a little crazy and sometimes it’s hard to get everything done? I often find it hard to fit it all in and I work from home! You would think that I’m in control of my time for the most part. By the time we feed ourselves, work, clean, do laundry, shop for groceries, get to all of our outside appointments, and actually spend time with friends, family, and the people we love, fitting in some time for ourselves to “exercise” can seem impossible.

This is why it is so important to find something you ENJOY doing when it comes to physical activity! There is nothing worse than dragging yourself to the gym when you don’t enjoy it. Do you enjoy walking in nature? Do that! Dancing? (hell yes!) Do that as your exercise! The more you enjoy it, the easier it is to fit it into your day.

There is some expectation that you need to workout for a certain amount of time each day for it to matter. WHATEVER! If you can fit in 10 or 15 minutes here and there throughout your day, do it. It all adds up. Looking for simple ways to get your 10,000 steps a day? Walk to the mailbox instead of stopping in your car on the way home to grab it, take your dog for a ten minute stroll, park at the far end of the grocery store parking lot, take a dance break during the day . . .there are lots of options and they are all GOOD ENOUGH.

I’ve thinking about all of the “health trends” that come and go and was reminded that a few years ago, the pH levels in our body was a big concern. Now we are concerned about HRV (heart rate variability). Are we sleeping enough? Are we getting enough exercise? Is our heart healthy?

I’ve been looking into a ways to track my sleep, but WOW, there are so many things that can interfere with sleep . . . an over regulated nervous system, too much screen time before bed, over exercising, too much caffeine, too much sugar, stress, age! It can get overwhelming and feel like it’s just too much. Sure, it’s important, but we need to prioritize our energy around what we can fit into our already busy life. If I start tracking it, will I be able to do something to improve it? I’ll keep you posted!

Trends come and go, and all we can do is our best. We can’t control everything, we can’t be everything to everyone, and sometimes we can’t add another “should” to the list.

Consider this your permission to allow yourself some grace and know that doing the best you can in this moment is enough. What kinds of things are you worrying about on a daily basis? I’d love to hear from you!
